In 1993 I started a band with Bendy (went on to form Merge into Stripes), Mardy Evans (went on to drum for The Day Everything Became Nothing, and a million other things), and Mr Pi (maths prodigy, became a lecturer at Berkley University), called "gLOBALmINDfUCK". We were awesome. We drove audiences away all around Melbourne (once struggling on with our set while the venue was packing up chairs and sweeping the floor). No-one knew what to make of us - we were unpredictable, bizarrely impractical, and the guitars were always woefully out of tune (my bad). And we had a 486 on stage (Bendy would trigger low-fi samples on ScreamTracker)... People thought we were crazy. And not in the 'wow man, you so cray-cray' kinda way, but in the 'you are a fucking imbecile' kinda way.
Ahh, good times.
(After several line up changes (Mr Pi left for America, and we recruited the spectacular James Evans on bass (Trade, etc), then he moved to second guitar and Bress joined on chapman stick (NHIV, etc), and we gigged and recorded many times with the awesome Madeleine Hoxley on guest viola (Tzigas, etc)), we fell apart and moved on to our millions of other current musical projects. And gLOBALmINDfUCK was no more.)
To celebrate 20 years since the beginnings of our misguided reign of awesomeness, I'm re-recording old gLOBALmINDfUCK songs, and putting them here. Parts have been re-interpreted and it's all definitely still HAARK, but at the same time, I hope that it captures the essence of the eclectic riffmonster that was gLOBALmINDfUCK.
(The riffs are sometimes a bit 90s, but well, it was the 90s, so it's chronologically appropriate.)
