Thirty years ago, Negativland created the intensely amazing cut-up masterpiece 'A Big 10-8 Place', all about (in my interpretation, anyway) the concept of 'home' .
Twenty years ago, my friend Bendy (and musical collaborator in 'Merge Into Stripes' and, back then, 'gLOBALmINDfUCK') played me 'A Big 10-8 Place', and it blew my little mind.
Now, on its thirty year anniversary, I have revisted this album, and, through a combination of remixing, reappropriation, rerecording, and tangentially-related referencing, recreated 'A Big 10-8 Place', using my own notions of 'home' (including detailed instructions on how to find my own place in the universe, World Famous Guitar and Plunger Studios).
Lyrics have been changed, the sounds are different, and there are parts that bear little resemblence to Negativland's epic opus at all - but here it is. Enjoy.
(Dedicated to Negativland. It's been a long time coming.)
